My Journey with Crohn’s Disease

Nine years ago, my life changed when I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.

But the diagnosis itself didn’t come quickly.

It took around 12 months before I finally found out what was actually wrong. During that time, I went through dozens of doctors’ appointments, trying to understand what was happening to my body and why I wasn’t feeling like myself. There was so much uncertainty, frustration and worry that came with not knowing what was causing the symptoms I was experiencing.

Finally having an answer brought some relief, but it also meant beginning a completely different chapter of my life — one where Crohn’s would become something I would have to learn to live with every day.

Over the past nine years, I’ve experienced first-hand what it means to live with an illness that is often invisible to everyone around you. Crohn’s isn’t just about the physical symptoms. When the disease is active, it can affect your entire life.

There have been days when the pain, fatigue and discomfort have left me completely physically and mentally drained. Even everyday things that other people might take for granted can become difficult. Your plans can change, your routine can be interrupted, and sometimes you simply don’t have the energy to do the things you want to do.

One of the hardest parts is that you can be struggling on the inside while looking completely fine on the outside.

That’s something I want people to understand.

I don’t want people to look at me differently because I have Crohn’s.

I don’t want my diagnosis to be the first thing people see when they look at me. I’m still me. I still want to live my life, challenge myself and do the things that make me feel strong.

That’s why, to the best of my ability, I push myself to stay active every day. I go to the gym, I take long walks and I make an effort to keep moving, because staying active is an important part of helping me stay on top of my Crohn’s and maintaining my physical and mental strength.

It doesn’t mean every day is easy.

It doesn’t mean I don’t struggle.

And it certainly doesn’t mean Crohn’s isn’t there.

There are days when my body simply needs me to slow down, and I’ve learned to respect that. But when I can, I choose to keep moving forward.

I refuse to let Crohn’s become the limit of what I believe I can do.

My journey over the past nine years has taught me resilience, patience and an appreciation for the simple things in life. It has taught me that strength isn’t about never having difficult days — it’s about continuing to move forward despite them.

I know there are millions of people living with Crohn’s and Colitis who understand this battle all too well. People who may be dealing with pain, exhaustion, uncertainty and emotional struggles that nobody else can see.

That is why I’m raising funds and awareness for Crohn’s & Colitis.

I want to help make these invisible illnesses more visible. I want to encourage greater understanding, support research and help raise awareness of what life is really like for people living with these conditions.

Most importantly, I hope that by sharing my story, someone else living with Crohn’s or Colitis might feel a little less alone.

My diagnosis changed my life, but it didn’t take my determination away.

Nine years later, I’m still here. Still moving. Still pushing myself. Still going to the gym. Still taking those long walks. Still trying to make the most of every good day.

And most importantly, I’m still refusing to let Crohn’s get the best of me.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, can help make a difference. Every share can help raise awareness. And every bit of support can help someone living with Crohn’s or Colitis feel seen, understood and supported.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, support my journey and stand with me in raising awareness for Crohn’s & Colitis. ❤️
