Mac's Crohnie Clan's Fourth Year of the Living Fearless Challenge!!

Hi Everyone!

Here we go on our fourth year of the Challenge!!!

As I reflect on that day on the 8th January 2020 when Mac got his diagnosis and how far he has come in kicking Crohn's butt and remaining as healthy as he can, I can't help but feel a lot of pride. We felt so alone, this new disease that was ravaging a part of his large colon was hurting our boy! There was no family history of auto immune diseases either, that we were aware of.

As we read and researched more about Crohn's disease, we learnt about treatments, good diets, medication, activities and what part each member of Mac's medical team would play in his treatment and how we could make Mac's life easier. Then Covid hit with ferocity. Wow what a year!

Now three years on, Mac isn't in remission yet, but at least his calprotectin (the biochemical measurement of protein inflammation markers in the body - if they appear in stool samples it means that the protein has migrated to the intestines; the higher the calprotectin numbers are, the more inflammation is present in the intestines) has remained steady, though higher than we would like.

Mac is continuing to be a fabulous individual and can hold forth conversations on film and production or forensic science that make me gasp with how much he already knows. His favourite subject at school is Film, TV and New Media and it shows in his marks :D Mac either wants to be in film production/cinematography or forensics. I am positive Mac will excel at anything that he puts his mind to and holds his interest! Shoot for the stars Mac!! We love you!!!

Well, lets do this!!!!

Cheers, Suzie

This is the official blurb....

I’m getting active to achieve 150kms and raise awareness and much needed funds for Australians living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

As I challenge myself to reach these goals during September, it would really help me to know that I have your support. If you can rally behind me with even a small donation, it would motivate me through the month and keep my spirits high.

All proceeds go towards Crohn's & Colitis Australia's support services, research initiatives, education and advocacy programs for the Crohn's and colitis community.

Thank you and see you at the finish line!

My Updates

I Have Completed The Challenge!!!

Last night, I finished the Challenge!!!! 150km done in two weeks and I am so proud of myself.  I told Mac as soon as I finished and he hugged me :D I whispered that he was my inspiration which made him very happy :D

Mac had his follow up appointment with his paediatric gastroenterologist this week who advised that for the first time in years, the calprotectin reading was 50!!! Wooooooo!!!!!!! If the next few stool sample readings are 50 or less, Mac will be officially in remission :D We are on the right track!!!

Trev has hit over 100km in the challenge himself, you go  Trev!!!! :D Mac's Crohnie Clan rocks :D
