I'm living fearlessly this September by participating in the Live Fearless Challenge 2024
Living with Crohn's disease for almost 20 years has been a bit like riding a roller coaster, except there’s no off switch, and the ride operators are on a permanent coffee break. The ups and downs can be pretty wild. One minute, I'm chugging along just fine, and the next, I'm hurtling into a flare-up that sends me straight to the hospital. I've had more hospital wristbands than I can count—seriously, if they were concert tickets, I'd be living the dream!
Then there are the infusions. Oh, the infusions. They’ve become a regular part of my life, like a really persistent friend who shows up unannounced and insists on staying for hours. They keep me going, but they’ve also made me the queen of awkward scheduling. Ever tried planning a day around a drip, and waiting for pharmacy? It’s like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole—while blindfolded.
In addition to the flares, the regular infusions I’ve had to undergo are another reminder of the compromises I’ve had to make. These treatments, while necessary, often interrupt my daily routine, pulling me away from the activities and moments that make life enjoyable. The fatigue and low energy levels are constant companions, making even the simplest tasks feel like monumental challenges.
Some days, my energy level is like that of a sloth on a lazy Sunday. You know you’re in for a long day when even the toaster is moving faster than you.
There are days when just getting out of bed feels like an achievement, and other days when I wonder how much longer I can keep pushing through.
Yet, despite these challenges, I remain determined to live life to the fullest whenever I am well. This is why I’m passionate about participating in challenges—not just for the physical accomplishment, but to raise awareness and vital funds for Crohn’s disease. This illness is often invisible to others, and many people have no idea of the daily struggles faced by those who live with it. By taking on these challenges, I hope to shine a light on what it’s like to live with Crohn’s and to inspire others to support the fight against this misunderstood disease.
So, I’m getting active to achieve 100kms and raise awareness and much needed funds for Australians living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
If you can rally behind me again this year, with even a small donation, it would motivate me through the month and keep my spirits high.
All proceeds go towards Crohn's & Colitis Australia's support services, research initiatives, education and advocacy programs for the Crohn's and colitis community.
Thank you and big love,
KR x
