I'm living fearlessly this September by participating in the Live Fearless Challenge 2024

I’m getting active to achieve 150kms and raise awareness and much needed funds for Australians living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

As I challenge myself to reach these goals during September, it would really help me to know that I have your support. If you can rally behind me with even a small donation, it would motivate me through the month and keep my spirits high as I undertake my 5th colonoscopy.

All proceeds go towards Crohn's & Colitis Australia's support services, research initiatives, education and advocacy programs for the Crohn's and colitis community.

Thank you and see you at the finish line!

Lunchtime walk

Here's a photo of the new Neville Bonner bridge in Brisbane which opened up recently in the city. It was great to explore the new bridge and it makes it so much easier to access South Bank! A nice way to get my ks up for the challenge this month.

The First 5k!

The day after my Colonoscopy was the first day I could really exercise - trust me when I say the Colonoscopy prep had me not wanted to venture far from the comfort of my bathroom! So I went for a beautiful afternoon walk. I was reflecting on the Colonoscopy and I realised that during my procedure, almost my entire health team were women! My gastroenterologist, my anaesthetist, the six or so nurses that looked after me - all women, how cool is that?!

Heaven = a post colonoscopy sando

Finally the time had come after waking up from my Colonoscopy for my long-awaited sandwich! Days of being on restricted/liquid/fasting diet meant this was the best tasting snack. The nurse was asking what I wanted - I accepted everything - chicken sando, cheese and crackers, juice, sweet bickie and a cuppa to finish while I recovered and listened to the Doctor tell me my great results...No active signs of Ulcerative colitis meaning I am officially in Deep remission!

Tough start

It has been a tough start to the Live Fearless Challenge this year - I had my 5th Colonoscopy scheduled on the 3rd of September so for the first few days of the challenge I was either on a restricted diet or completely nil by mouth in preparation for my procedure! For those that have never had the joyful experience - it takes around 5 days to prepare for a Colonoscopy. For 4-5 days you need to be on a low fibre diet so no fruits/veges with seeds (who knew how much I would miss them!) and mostly bland food. Then a day before the procedure I was on a clear fluid diet and consuming a whole heap (around 2L) of medical prep fluids. On the day of, I had to chug a final litre of the medical prep and then fast until my procedure - this means not even water or ice to sip!!
