150km for Crohns

Mikayla, Bec, Kat, and I are doing the ‘live fearless challenge’, exercising 150km each for the month of September. In hope to provide awareness and hopefully raise $500 for Australians living with Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. 

For those who don’t know what Crohns disease is. It is an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks healthy cells in the digestive track causing inflammation. This is a lifelong disease which currently has no cure. I hope contributing to this fundraiser it can help to work towards a cure in the future. 

In 2018 I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. I was lucky enough to have been diagnosed early before too much of my body was affected and am privileged to be living in remission mostly since my diagnosis. Although in remission my body is still affected daily and is maintained through a healthy lifestyle. 

However, I know this is not the case for everyone who is diagnosed. Where being in and out of hospital and in constant pain is something not uncommon. 

Living with a life-long disease that can flare  up at any time and could change in severity is scary. When I was diagnosed although I was greatly supported I still felt very isolated, misunderstood and that no one could relate to me. Navigating how to manage with Crohn’s disease was challenging at first, living away from my parents and discovering a new lifestyle to maintain my health.
