5 Ways to Keep Yourself Motivated To Maintain Exercise

We are getting to the halfway point of the Live Fearless Challenge and maintaining your physical activity throughout the month can become more difficult. Here are some tips to help keep your motivation levels high.

  1. Reward system.

It is important to have internal and external reasons for achieving anything so you can gather the maximum motivation. Internally, set mini goals within your exercise and when you finish, take a sometime to truly feel good for what you just did. External rewards could be after a long week of committing to your goals to going shopping to buy new clothes or having a special meal that you would not usually have to help you look forward to achieving you next set of goals.

  1. Try to maintain a schedule.

The hardest part of maintaining exercise is keeping a consistent routine. Creating a schedule of when you have some free time throughout the day to getting exercise done can help turn exercise into a habit. For example, if you have kids who are going to school early in the morning and must head to work straight after, fitting in a walk on your lunch break could help build the habit.

   3. Do some more enjoyable activities.

Completing the same routine of the same exercises repeatedly can lead to a decrease in motivation. If you feel that, do some activities that break up your routine but provide a great workout. For example, dancing, rollerblading, playing sports like tennis, kicking the football or soccer ball, basketball, volleyball, rock climbing, etc. This will not only break up your routine into a more enjoyable activity but provide an intense workout.

  1. Phone a friend/family member.

Completing exercise by yourself on a frequent basis can be boring and uninspiring at times. Having a friend/family member accompany you in your exercise whether that is a walk, run or a gym workout, can help build that motivation and competitive drive to push you to train and have a more enjoyable exercise.

  1. Create a strong playlist.

Having music that brings in a positive, strong attitude will lift your overall energy which coming into a workout is important. Music can also provide an outlet for pain and exhaustion that you may be going through while completing a higher intensity workout.

Lacking motivation from time to time is very normal for everyone. If your able to be self-aware and get on top of your lack of motivation, keeping these tips in mind might give you the edge you need to climb your next mountain.
